CLINICAL

Your Dermapen™ specialist will prescribe a course of needling treatments to treat your skin condition. Ideally these treatments are performed at 6-8 week intervals to ensure maximum results. Each Dermapen™ appointment will last approximately one hour.

Skin needling has many advantages over laser resurfacing since there is minimal down time 1-2 days for needling vs months for laser resurfacing, no risk of scarring with needling vs significant scar risk with laser resurfacing, it is suitable and safe for darker skin types vs laser resurfacing contra-indicated in darker skin types and comes with no risk of hypo/hyper pigmentation vs significant risk of pigment changes with lasers.

Body Face Needle

SKIN NEEDLING

HOW IT WORKS

As the Dermapen™ moves over the skin, it creates pin point punctures into the dermis – the majority of which are simply pushing your pores open temporarily. This is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. The human body reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process, but usually it will only heal as far as it must to keep you healthy – which is different to healing to a cosmetic level. By persistently triggering the healing process, you encourage your body to continue healing until the job is finished.

Skin micro-needling with the Dermapen™ can be carried out on all types of skin and all skin colours. Other treatments often have to avoid Sensitive areas – such as around the eyes, the neck and the backs of the hands, but the Dermapen™ can be used on all of these areas. The epidermis and melanocytes in the basal area are not damaged, so there’s no possibility of post inflammatory hyper pigmentation. CAN THE SKIN DERMAPEN™ REMOVE STRETCH MARKS?

Stretch Mark Removal is just one of the many benefits associated with skin needling. Stretch Marks occur when the skin is stretched suddenly. The outer layer of skin isn’t affected, but the dermis becomes thinner and develops tiny tears. The blood vessels that lie under the skin show through, giving the marks a reddish colour. Later, when the blood vessels contract, the purplish colour fades to silvery white.

The most common causes of Stretch Marks are pregnancy (between 75% and 90% of women develop Stretch Marks during pregnancy), adolescent growth spurts, rapid muscle growth and weight loss or gain.

The process of removing Stretch Marks or treating Stretch Marks happens as the skin needling stimulates the production of new collagen fibers and elastin in the skin. The Stretch Marks fill in, the skin thickens, tightens and elasticity is restored. The rate at which Stretch Mark removal can be achieved varies depending on the severity of the case, but noticeable changes can be seen in as little as a week with dramatic results in a month or less.

CAN THE DERMAPEN™ REMOVE ACNE SCARS / SURGERY SCARS?

Acne scar removal and acne scar treatment are a common use for skin needling, along with treating surgery scars, pitting of the skin, large pores, chicken pox scars, burn scars and more.
